Reasons for Hope
INTRODUCTION
We are living in difficult times. Many are being tested beyond their capacity to endure. Although there is no declaration yet from the government, sometimes it feels like we are in a state of calamity. But, through faith in Jesus Christ, these times can also be our greatest opportunity. How can we live in such a way that people will ask us about our reason or reasons for hope? (1 Peter 3:14-15)
THREE REASONS FOR HOPE
- Our *salvation* is secure. (1 Peter 1:3-9) – Our fears, worries, and anxieties are very real these days because of the uncertainties of the times. We are not sure about what would happen next. But, unlike our circumstances, our salvation is always secure. God guarantees it for us by His grace and power even though we may go through various kinds of trials.
- Our *identity* is secure. (1 Peter 1:22-23; 2:4-5; 2:9-10) – We know to whom we belong. We are God’s people regardless of the situation we are going through. Our feelings and experiences do not change our identity. Instead, our secure identity in Christ gives us the assurance that all will work together for our good.
- Our *victory* is secure. (1 Peter 4:1-2; 4:12-13; 4:17-19) – Times may be difficult. But the Lord assures of victory because of His faithfulness. We may feel weak but He will always be strong on our behalf. His power will see us through and we will be victorious in the end.
CONCLUSION
- “Our *secure hope* is our *best weapon* against fear.”
- We may not be able to control our situations. But we don’t have to worry because Christ is faithful. We know we are secure in Him always.
- This week, practice hope. Do those things that will show people that your hope is in Christ.
