Present Victory and Future Glory

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans‬ ‭8:11‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Our problem with sin is not just its penalty but also its power, products and presence in our lives. This is the reason why Jesus did not just die for our sins. He also rose from the dead for our justification. This means that for our lives to be put right again, He knew we needed His power to overcome the power of sin. We also needed His power to heal us from what sin has done and produced, and continue to produce, in our lives. All the shame, guilt, alienation and fear have to be eradicated. Only His resurrection power can do that. His resurrection power also guarantees a future of hope for us, for we now know that someday there will be no more sin, suffering and death. All things will pass away; everything will be made new. Meanwhile, He gives us His Holy Spirit so that through Him we may experience the resurrection power of Jesus in our present lives. His presence, power and purpose enable us to overcome the problem of sin each day. The Holy Spirit communicates the love of God in our hearts. He reminds us always that we are children of God, destined for glory. He calls us and enables us to live our lives according to God’s will. The Holy Spirit makes real in our lives the resurrection power of Jesus. For as He is alive forever more, we are also fully alive in Him today, and we will also be fully alive with Him in His kingdom forever more. The resurrection of Jesus is our guarantee of present victory and future glory! He is risen and we all say, “He is risen indeed!” Shalom! (PB)
