Rest for Your Soul
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” Psalm 23:1 NIV
Your soul will always be in a state of unrest for as long as it is disconnected from God. You may feel tired, depleted, worn out, and weak. You may feel alone, rejected, misunderstood, misjudged, or ostracized. Thoughts of loneliness may lead you to feel isolated or unwanted. No one seems to care. If not for some important people, you may want to end it all. So you look for all sorts of things or people to fill you up. Nothing cures your emptiness. Nothing works. Why? Because your soul is disconnected from God. Your soul is longing for God just like a deer is longing for water when it’s thirsty. Unless you recognize that, the ache in your heart won’t go away. You were created by and for God. Everything else is just an idol, a cheap replacement. But when you set your soul to seek God, to commune with Him in prayer, or just be still in His presence, your soul will come alive again. It will recover. It will sing praises again. The joy of the Lord will return. It would be an amazing turnaround. More importantly, you will discover that nothing else matters. You will find rest for your soul. You will no longer need anything besides God. You may still want certain things, but you won’t need them anymore. He will fill your soul to the brim and then it will overflow, like streams of living water. Your soul will leap with joy, because in turning to the Lord it will find its true Shepherd. Stop chasing after vain things or relationships. Turn your heart toward the Lord. Then you will be able to say, ““The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” Shalom! (PB)
