Lessons Learned About Relationships
Introduction
The pandemic has been a difficult experience for all of us. The crisis is not yet over. But we can pause to examine what we have been learning so far. This August, we will hear from different voices sharing their personal lessons during the pandemic concerning five important themes. Thus, our series will be called “Variants.” First, let’s talk about Lessons Learned about Relationships.
Three Key Lessons about Relationships
- “Daily communion with God will turn your anxiety to certainty.” (Philippians 4:6) – Being separated from loved ones can create severe anxiety which can affect one’s spiritual well-being. Daily prayer and thanksgiving can help a lot. Anxiety is a feeling that tells us that we need to talk to God. Be aware of your feelings of anxiety. Then find a quiet place to bring it to God in prayer until you experience His peace.
- “Loving others intentionally requires God’s grace.” (Matt 22:37-39) – It’s very hard to find meaningful relationships especially in the pandemic. You need to draw strength from God. But if you put in the time, and acknowledge that it takes faith to have life-giving relationships, you’ll never know how much of an impact it will make in the long run. Not only in your personal life, but it can also result in an exponential effect that might outlive you.
- “Opportunities you don’t forget are blessings you won’t regret.” (Philippians 2:3-4) – There will always be opportunities to love our families during the pandemic. But we can easily miss them if we don’t pay attention. Often, we forget such opportunities until it’s too late. We must grab those opportunities whenever we can so that we won’t be tortured with regret later on.
Conclusion
- Social distancing need not mean relational distancing.
- Make a sincere effort to prioritize relationships during this pandemic.
- Make a list of loved ones and friends that you need to connect with, and then do something practical to reach out to them this week.
