True Rest

“Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.” Hebrews‬ ‭4:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There is a rest for our souls that is available to anyone who is willing to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This kind of rest is not just physical but spiritual rest, which means it applies to everything about us, since we are spiritual beings. This rest is also the result of faith, which is seen through obedience. Obedience is not a one time decision but a day to day decision. We find our rest as we put our hope in Him, rather than in ourselves. Rest comes to those who no longer rely on their good works to make themselves accepted or significant before God. They have ceased striving and have acknowledged that God is indeed in control of all things. He is the One who forgives, the One who restores, and the One who makes all things new! They can cast all their worries upon Him, for they know He cares for them and loves them unconditionally. There is no need to be worried, hurried, or upset, because they know Jesus is Lord of all. They can rest in His presence and grace at all times. They have found acceptance and significance in Him. So they are no longer restless but restful. This kind of rest is now available by faith to those who believe. In fact, this is the only rest that makes all kinds of rest meaningful. You can set aside a day or several days in true rest because your soul has found rest in the Lord. You can even rest for a few minutes and be rejuvenated, because Christ gives you rest as you learn from Him. This is the kind of rest that you must aspire for, a true rest of your soul. When your soul finds this kind of rest on a day to day basis, a whole Sabbath day of rest will truly be a joy! Shalom! (PB)
