Take Care of Your Soul
“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? For what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Mark 8:36-37 NASB
There are two aspects to our lives, the outer part, or what people see, and the inner part, or what only God sees. This inner part is called our soul. It is who we truly are, minus all the facade or pretensions that we might have. It is us that exist before God at all times. It would be easy to see what is going on outside of us — our accomplishments, appreciations, affirmations and applauses — but only God sees the true state of our souls. Of course, sooner or later our souls will leak out. Who we are will come out during pressure points. This is God’s will, so that we will no longer live in denial. Only the truth can set us free. God wants us to acknowledge the true condition of our souls because He wants to save our souls. He values our souls more than anything, because it will go on forever. God created us to be living souls. Even when our bodies die, our souls live forever, either in God’s presence or away from Him. He loves us so much that He does not want us to spend forever apart from Him.
This is why we must take care of our souls. We must examine its true state with the help of God, who reveals the truth to us about us through His word. What use is it to be successful on the outside but to have our souls dying inside. If there is no rest for your soul, then God in His mercy is simply helping you to see the truth about yourself. Take heed and listen to His word, which can save your soul. Do it today. God bless and shalom (peace) to you. (PB)
