The Means To Go Back
Introduction
It’s crucial to always remember the death of Christ on the cross. Thankfully, because we are predominantly a Christian nation, we are reminded of this once a year. But through the years, many people, even Christians, are no longer interested to remember this very important event. They would rather use this occasion to do other things. Of course, there is nothing wrong with doing other things. But if doing other things results in forgetting the significance of the death of Christ on the cross, then maybe we need to pause and consider that. Galatians 3:1-14 gives us three reasons why it’s crucial to always remember the Cross.
Three Reasons Why
- The Cross reminds us of our beginning (Galatians 3:1-5). Remembering the Cross brings us back to the beginning of our Christian lives. It’s so easy to forget how it all started for us. Appreciating the grace of God, how He led us through a series of experiences and circumstances until we realized we needed Christ in our lives. Then someone shared the Gospel with us and, by God’s grace, we believed. Then we received the gift of the Holy Spirit and we experienced miracle after miracle of God’s amazing grace. The Cross was and is truly the starting point of our journey with God.
- The Cross reminds us of our belonging (Galatians 3:6-9). By the grace of God, after believing in the Gospel, the Lord led us to a community of faith, where we started growing in our faith. We learned about God’s promises through His Word, the Holy Scriptures. We also learned about relationships, and how to love and be loved. Brothers and sisters in Christ, whom we didn’t know personally before, started helping us. We finally found our home in Christ. The Cross brought us all together as one family.
- The Cross reminds us of our becoming (Galatians 3:10-14). The Cross opened the door for us to a new and bright future. Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, we are now partakers of the divine nature. We are now being transformed into the image of Christ so that we can do the good works that He has prepared for us in advance. God’s power is now available to us so that we can represent Him in the world for His glory. Through the Cross, we now have a purpose in life. What an exciting future we have in Christ Jesus!
