The Joy Of Following Jesus
Introduction
It seems that we might have more freedom this December. Who knows? We might even have Christmas parties! But as followers of Christ, we may have mixed feelings. As we see our friends enjoying themselves, we might ask, “Can we do the same things as they do?” We know there are some things that we must not do as devoted followers of Jesus. And maybe this is the reason why some of us may not be very happy this Christmas. But is there anything to rejoice about this season as followers of Jesus?
Three Reasons from Luke 6:17-26, 43-45
- Our blessings are not *physical* but *spiritual*. (Luke 6:17-20) – Experiencing healing and prayers being answered may be a blessing to many. But for true followers of Jesus, the real blessing is spiritual in nature. We are blessed to be reconciled with God through faith in Jesus. We are now forgiven! Also, we are blessed to receive a new identity in Him. We are now children of God! Hallelujah!
[bctt tweet=”Our blessings are not physical but spiritual.” username=”rlccphil”] - Our blessings are not *temporal* but *eternal*. (Luke 6:20-23) – In the here and now, we may not experience a lot of advantages. In fact, we might even suffer because of our faith. But as followers of Jesus, we know that our blessings are not just for this life. Our blessings are eternal in nature. We will inherit the kingdom of God! We will be part of the new creation! Hallelujah!
[bctt tweet=”Our blessings are not temporal but eternal.” username=”rlccphil”] - Our blessings are not *external* but *internal*. (Luke 6:24-26, 43-45) – People are focused on external blessings, those that can be seen or touched. The world rejoices because of the pride of life and the lust of the eyes. But these external blessings are nothing compared to the internal transformation that we experience in Christ. Through faith in Him, we can manifest the character of God! Hallelujah!

Conclusion
- The joy of following Jesus *far* *outweighs* the cost.
[bctt tweet=”The joy of following Jesus far outweighs the cost.” username=”rlccphil”] - We must count the cost of following Jesus but we must also count the cost of not doing so.
- This December, recommit yourself and your household to follow Jesus whatever the cost.
