Jesus is coming very soon!
Introduction
Many people are afraid of the Book of Revelation. For sure it is not easy to read and understand. Some misinterpret it to their own peril. Others use it to come up with elaborate timetables depicting precise events or personalities in history. But how should we read and interpret it? One important way is to see it as a blessing for God’s people. There are four reasons why the Book of Revelation is a blessing to us.
- Jesus is coming very soon
- Suffering will not last forever
- God’s word will endure always
- All evil will be removed
Today, we begin with the first blessing: Jesus is coming very soon (Rev 1:3, 7)! But when is He coming?
Three Signs
- The sign of *Our Times* (Rev 1:19, 4:1, 5:1, 6:1-17; Matt 24:4-8) – Although it may seem discouraging to go through difficult times right now, they are actually signs of Jesus’ coming. Jesus referred to them as similar to the pains of childbirth. In other words, as these difficult times escalate and become more frequent, we are nearing the time of Jesus’ second coming!
- The sign of *Satan’s Reign* (Rev 8:1-2, 8:6-11:19, 13:1-18) – The crucial turning point that signals the nearness of Jesus’ coming is the Tribulation. While many are afraid of these events, we are assured in the Book of Revelation that this will be for a short time. Believers who are alive during this period will be sealed and protected by God. Except for a few, the majority of believers will pass through it unharmed.
- The sign of *God’s Wrath* (Rev 15:1, 16:1, 19:11-13, 19-21) – The outpouring of God’s wrath on those who have the seal of Satan will be terrifying. But for God’s people, they will see the glory of God in the second coming of Jesus! It will be a time of great worship and celebration! Jesus will come again, this time not as a child but as King of kings and Lord of lords!
Conclusion
- It’s a *great blessing* to see the *signs of His coming*.
- Because we are sealed, we have nothing to fear.
- We must serve the Lord now while there is still time.
