Experiencing Isolation
Introduction
Feeling isolated or lonely is a common experience that affects many people at some point in their lives. It can be caused by a variety of factors, such as living alone, losing a loved one, or feeling disconnected from others. Unfortunately, these feelings can have serious consequences, such as depression, anxiety, paranoia, and even physical health problems. It’s important that we understand the issue of isolation and loneliness and find wisdom through God’s word on how to overcome them as well as help those who may be struggling with such feelings. There is always hope in Jesus because He knows and understands isolation. We need to be reminded of the…
Three Truths Pertaining to Isolation
- You are never truly alone. (John 16:32; Deut 31:6; Heb 13:5-6) – One of the deceptions of the enemy, whenever we feel lonely or isolated, is to think that we are alone, that no one really cares, etc. But the truth of God’s word tells us that we are never truly alone. As Jesus showed and taught us, we can be confident of God’s presence in our lives always, regardless of our situation.
- You are just under training. (Heb 5:7-10; Jas 1:2-4) – Loneliness and isolation are often places of grace for us to learn faith and obedience through suffering. The example of Jesus shows us that we can persevere during these times because God is training us and developing us into mature disciples who are like Jesus.
- You don’t have to be lonely. (Mark 1:35; 6:30-32; Psa 139:7-12) – Being alone does not necessarily mean that we have to be lonely. Being alone is a situation; loneliness is an emotion. The former may be something that happens to us or we choose to be alone. But loneliness is a decision we make because of the way we think. It’s time that we retrain our minds to think differently when we are alone.
