Live as Light

Introduction

The purpose of our spiritual revival is not only for our own enjoyment but also for the sake of others. God desires for us to be spiritually alive so that we can extend a helping hand to others, guiding them to know and follow Jesus as we do. Regrettably, many individuals today view spiritual revival as an end in itself. They seek to experience it solely for personal satisfaction or to feel a sense of closeness to God. While we may indeed experience such feelings during times of revival, that is not the ultimate objective. The ultimate goal is to become effective messengers of the Gospel, enabling the salvation of many more people through our collective witness. This is what it means to live as light. How can we do this?

Two Steps

1. We must grow in our *integrity*. (Ephesians 5:3-6) – The world we live in is challenging. We are constantly under pressure to lower our standards and conform to others (vv. 3-4). This pressure may come in subtle ways, such as through movies, the Internet, and social media. That is why we should prioritize spiritual formation through our small groups. By engaging in spiritual companionships and soul talks, we want to learn how to obey the Lord. This is the only way we can grow in our integrity. (vv. 5-6).

2. We must grow in our *influence*. (Ephesians 5:7-14) – When we grow in our integrity, our influence also grows. As we discover what pleases the Lord, we can bear more good fruit in our lives (vv. 7-10). We can also learn to say no to those who may try to tempt us to sin against God, even among fellow believers (vv. 11-12). The Lord desires for us to shine our light as we follow our calling in the world (vv. 13-14).

Conclusion

1. Central Idea: “Spiritual revival should help us *proclaim* the Gospel *better*.”

2. Our spiritual revival is not just for personal satisfaction or feeling close to God. We want to become effective messengers of the Gospel, shining the light of Christ for all to see.

3. This week, engage in soul talks with fellow believers. Encourage each other to obey the Lord so that we can grow in our integrity and influence.

Discussion

1. In the sermon, we discussed the importance of growing in integrity as a part of spiritual revival. In what ways do you feel challenged to compromise your standards in today’s culture, and how can your small group support you in maintaining your integrity?

2. The sermon highlighted that as we grow in our integrity, our influence should also increase, allowing us to shine our light for others. Share a specific example of how your faith has influenced someone else’s life positively. What can we do collectively as a group to have a more significant impact on those around us?

3. The sermon emphasized that spiritual revival should help us proclaim the Gospel better. What practical steps can we take individually and as a small group to actively and effectively share the message of Christ with those who may not yet know Him? How can we overcome any barriers or fears in doing so?
