Suffering Will Not Last Forever
Introduction
It’s easy to get scared when we think about the Book of Revelation. We tend to imagine all the terrifying things that could happen. There will be a lot of suffering, of course. But actually, this book is a blessing to us. It tells us that our suffering will not last forever. The Lord Himself will see to it. Why do we believe this?
Three Important Promises From The Lord
- The Lord will keep us *eternally safe* (Rev 1:9, 2:2-3, 10, 3:10). We know our suffering will not last forever because the Lord cares for us. He will not allow us to suffer beyond our ability to endure or persevere. In fact, He will be the one to give us that ability. And, even if the worst thing could happen to us, He is able to keep us eternally safe in His arms.
- The Lord will limit the *scope of suffering* (Rev 7:3, 9:4, 13:8-10). Even the Tribulation itself will not last beyond three and a half years. During that time, the Lord will limit the scope of suffering so that His people will be protected. We are not destined to suffer the wrath of God but to experience His salvation. Therefore, He will see to it that His seal will protect us.
- The Lord will quickly *avenge His people* (Rev 6:9-11, 11:17-18, 18:20, 19:1-2). We know that our suffering will not last forever because God has set the time for His judgment to be poured out on those who hurt or harm His people. He will not prolong the coming of His judgment. He will judge those who do evil and rescue His people once and for all.
Conclusion
- It’s a great blessing to know the *truth about our suffering*.
- Because our suffering will not last forever, we can endure and trust God now.
- Let’s persevere and do not allow suffering to defeat us in our journey of faith.
