The Grace To Fight
Introduction
We need to be strong through the grace of God to thrive in these difficult times. Otherwise, we will not overcome. That requires having specific attitudes that would ensure victory rather than defeat. One such mindset is to be like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. But what does it mean? We need to reflect on this to understand its meaning and implications.
Three Commitments of a Good Soldier
- Say yes to your calling to be a *spiritual soldier*. (1 Timothy 6:11-12; 2 Timothy 2;3-4) – We are called to be spiritual soldiers in the kingdom of God. But not all of us are willing to accept that calling. We are still distracted and uncommitted. So, when suffering comes, we don’t know how to respond. Committed soldiers are not surprised because they know they are in a battle.
- Put on your *full spiritual armor* always. (Ephesians 6:10-12) – Committed soldiers do not go into battle unprepared. Even when they are resting, they know the enemy may attack at any time. So, they put on their full armor at all times, ready to fight the enemy even if he sneaks in to attack. Like good soldiers, we must also put on our full spiritual armor always.
- Be always ready to use your *spiritual weapons*. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5) – Good soldiers always sharpen their swords or spears so that they will not fail in battle. In the same way, like good soldiers, we must always be ready to use our spiritual weapons to fight our enemy. We don’t want to be defeated simply because our swords or spears are not sharp enough for battle.
Conclusion
- We can win our battles if we’re *committed* like *good soldiers*.
