God’s Greater Power
INTRODUCTION
Many people are not aware of the availability of God’s power for those who believe. They are also unfamiliar with its nature. Consequently, many do not experience its reality in their lives. More often than not, they rely solely on their own power or the power of others, both of which are nothing compared to the power of God. Why is this so? Interestingly, it is because we don’t understand the nature of our own power.
THREE REALITIES ABOUT OUR OWN POWER
- It is real but it’s limited (Genesis 1:28; 3:22; 4:6-7; 4:19-22; 4:23-24). – We have real power. It is given to us by God to fulfill His purpose in our lives. It was not taken away from mankind after the fall. God expects us to use it even now. This is the reason why we are responsible. However, our power will always be limited in nature. We cannot do everything we want. We will always be limited because we are creatures made by God. Only God is all powerful and only His power is unlimited.
- It can be improved but it can be a liability (2 Chronicles 2:13-15; Proverbs 22:29; Acts 22:2b-5). – We can enhance our power by improving it. We can do more through training and the use of technology or tools. This is a gift from God. But this can also be our liability. We can become arrogant and self-sufficient because of our improved knowledge and capabilities. Our own wisdom and power can become the hindrances to experiencing God’s power in our lives. We tend not to ask for God’s power because we think we can do it by ourselves.
- It can be used but only with faith in God’s greater power (Colossians 1:28-29; Philippians 2:12-13; 2 Thessalonians 1:11). – Our power is meant to be used with faith in God’s greater power. When we do anything with faith in God, our efforts are extended, enlarged, empowered, and multiplied. Even when we reach the end of our capacities, the Lord’s power can enable us to do things over and beyond what we can do by ourselves. When we put our faith in God’s greater power, nothing is impossible.
CONCLUSION
- We have power but God’s power is always greater.
- Our power is real and we must use it and improve it. But it’s limited and it can be a liability.
- We can only use it with faith in God’s GREATER POWER!
