The Call to Redemption
INTRODUCTION:
In spite of our shameful pasts, we should not feel undeserving of receiving eternal life. Jesus came to offer salvation to all, regardless of their sins. Like the Samaritan woman, who was isolated and marginalized, we may feel unworthy of God’s grace. However, Jesus does not avoid us; instead, he seeks us out and offers us living water, the source of eternal life. We can draw near to God and believe that Jesus will transform our past into a testimony of his grace and redemption. Jesus came for us because we have needs and because he wants to redeem our stories, making us deserving of eternal life through his sacrifice.
Why Jesus pursue undeserving people like you and me?
Two Reasons:
1. Jesus wants to satisfy our needs.
Jesus knows and will meet our need. We often look for things of this world to address our needs, either physically, emotionally or spiritually. However, nothing and no thing in this world will ever satisfy our soul’s desires. Only Jesus can meet the void in our hearts and can satisfy the thirst that we have. Jesus came to meet your need because He knows what we truly desire.
2. Jesus wants to redeem our story.
Due to our sins and mistakes, we might be feeling ashamed of our story, to the point that we avoid conversations that will surface our story. We would even distance ourself to God, as if we will be able to escape His grace. God Sent Jesus Christ to turn our story of shame and guilt to the story of His glory. We should come to Jesus because He can turn our story to a beautiful one, because He is in it.
CONCLUSION:
1. Jesus wants to give life everlasting to those who are undeserving.
2. We should not be ashamed to come to Jesus in times we feel undeserving.
3. They will choose not to disconnect but draw near to God regardless of their past.
DISCUSSION:
1. What is your deepest need or greatest desire that you think only Jesus can meet?
2. Do you have any encounters with Jesus in times of need?
3. Is there anything that hinders you from drawing nearer to God?
4. What did you learn from the encounter of Samaritan Woman with Jesus?
5. After hearing and learning that Jesus came to give life everlasting to those who are underserving, how will you approach God starting today?
